Turning 25 on a Tuesday: Birthday Fiesta!!

Yesterday I officially reached the quarter century mark! It seems like it was just a few days ago that I was turning 18 and ready and raring to embrace adulthood! Man, if only I knew then what I know now! Usually my birthdays are spent enjoying dinner at the restaurant of my choosing with close friends and family members but since this was my first birthday spent away from home, I knew it would be different!

I am incredibly lucky to have met some pretty amazing women here in Colorado. Upon learning that my birthday was coming up and with some clever undercover work they planned to make me a birthday fiesta! In casual conversation these ladies learned that I had been having a hankering for Mexican food and that G.I. Joe was not a fan. Needless to say, I was more than thrilled!

Good thing I came hungry!!! These ladies had prepared a delicious spread that satisfied all of my wildest pregnancy cravings! I was in fiesta heaven! I stepped in to a kitchen filled with the aromas of chicken quesadillas, taco cups, seven layer dip, and delicious mommy approved drinks!

The crown jewel of my birthday fiesta was a delicious fruit pizza my friends Loree and Sarah had painstakingly prepared! It was beautiful and most importantly delicious. The pizza featured a sugar cookie crust, topped with a delicate mixture or cream cheese and whipped cream, crowned with tasty, ripe fruits and a drizzle of Nutella! Yum, my mouth is watering recalling the experience!

We ate, we drank, and enjoyed excellent conversation. I can't think of a better way to celebrate my first birthday away from family and friends back home!

When you've got a sweet bun in the oven it's easy to feel left out in a social or party atmosphere, but my friends had me covered! My friends whipped up a delicious fruity little concoction that gave me the sensation of enjoying a drink with the girls while still keeping our growing baby safe. We lovingly call this drink Loree's Sunrise because the colors are beautiful and the taste is amazing. My non-preggo friends enjoyed their drinks with the addition of rum or flavored vodka while I enjoyed mine straight up ( fruit juice only), on the rocks, and with a straw!

If  you're ready to embrace the tropical deliciousness of this drink you're going to need some pineapple juice, grenadine syrup, sprite, and ice. Now, this recipe doesn't use exact measurements but rather a "to your own taste" measurement system. So, in a glass you begin by pouring in some pineapple juice. To the pineapple juice, add some sprite or lemon-lime soda of your choice (I like equal amounts pineapple to sprite). Then add in grenadine syrup until it forms a layer in the bottom of your glass. Grenadine syrup makes the drink sweet, if you like sweet, let 'er rip, if you prefer tart, use the grenadine sparingly or omit it altogether. If you, like me, are a mama-to-be your drink ends with some ice and a straw. If you're not expecting, then feel free to add the alcohol of your choosing. My friends enjoyed theirs with strawberry vodka or rum. It's really quite tasty, you should give it a try!

Yesterday was definitely a great day! I missed spending it with family and friends back home but am super blessed to have an amazing husband, precious son, and a wonderful group of friends here who helped make my day special! The next time you're looking to enjoy a drink with friends give Loree's Sunrise a shot, you won't be disappointed! Happy Wednesday, wishing you and those you love well from the Wild West!

The blog is back!: What happened while I was away!

Back in the saddle again!!! I have certainly missed writing and sharing a glimpse of our definition of life with you all! We've experienced so many changes and challenges in the months since I last wrote! While the challenges often seemed insurmountable, I've learned through it all that when life hands you lemons, hold your family close, learn to laugh at the little things, and grow in love from the experience of making lemonade together. Every moment, whether it be good or bad is all a part of the precious life experience.  So enough about that, here's a look at what's been happening here while I was away.

Girls just wanna have fun:
In October I enjoyed a girl's night out event hosted by the MWR with some friends and fellow military wives. We rocked our 80's costumes and enjoyed music, appetizers, drinks, as well as pool and Karaoke night at the dive bar down the road!
Totally rad outfits, makeup, and side ponytails!
Oh baby!:
You guessed it, at the end of October we discovered that we would be adding to our ranks and we were beyond thrilled! G.I. Joe had been telling me for days that he had a hunch and when he discovered he was right he was over the moon! We'll be excited to meet our sweet baby in early July!
I think over the moon is an understatement!

Boo at the Zoo:
Halloween rolled around and instead of venturing out in to unfamiliar territory for candy we decided to check out the zoo in Colorado Springs. We had a blast feeding giraffes and checking out the other
animals while collecting some candy for E along the way! It was a great experience and quite possibly our newest Halloween tradition!
I might be biased but I think E makes a great Power Ranger

Happy Mocks-giving:
Thanksgiving was going to be our first holiday away from family and I was bummed! So our families came to visit us in early November so we could celebrate a "mock" Thanksgiving as well as G.I. Joe's birthday! We had a great time, ate way too much food in traditional Thanksgiving fashion, and enjoyed showing around our first time visitors!
My first attempt at a Mocks-giving feast
G.I. Joe enjoyed a birthday visit

Elf on the Shelf:
E was lucky enough to receive an Elf on the Shelf this year whom he named Chippy. We had so much fun waking up to see what sort of mischief Chippy had gotten in to while we were asleep! We were sad to see him go but glad that Santa stopped by for a visit!
Naughty Elf!

Sharing the good news:
Keeping the news of a baby to ourselves was more difficult than we thought. We were so excited and couldn't wait to share the good news with our friends and families. We decided waiting until Christmas was the perfect time! It was a great surprise!
Every superhero needs a sidekick!

Among the months of chaos we were so blessed to have spent time with great friends and simply enjoying the time spent together as a family. When life hands you a bowl full of crazy remember to count your rainbows not your thunderstorms! Im so glad to be back writing with you! Check back tomorrow to celebrate my 25th birthday with a sweet and fruity drink that's become our girl's night favorite!
